1959 Porsche 356 A Convertible D VIN:86395 The Convertible D was the successor to the 356 Speedster. Arriving in 1958 with a higher windshield, comfier seats and roll up side windows, it added a touch of practicality to an otherwise purist package. This Outlaw Convertible D has been taken a step farther with the addition of disc brakes and a ferocious engine. Restored by renowned Porsche expert, Gary Kempton, at GK Restoration, this is one of the last cars he finished before his passing. Stripped down to its tub and built up part-by-part, it is and exceptional restoration executed by a master restorer. Delivered to its owner in July of 2009, this Convertible D is anything but ordinary. From its custom paint to its custom engine this car has received every attention possible. The paint is special metallic blue that was requested by Ferry Porsche for his own 356. After much research Gary was able to find the color code, and duplicated the color exactly. The engine is a story unto itself. Commissioned to be built by Curt Zitza, the 1950 cc powerplant puts out 190hp. In Zitza own words, We used a new SCAT Porsche sized crank, new Carrillo rods and a new mild cam. We used factory Porsche twin plug helicopter heads that have been re-valved and all ports flowed. We used Electromotive fuel injection and custom tune each engine on a Stuska 300 hp dyno. Our engines make approx. 190 hp at 6000 rpm. The engine is approximately 1950 cc's. The engine requires a separate oil cooler and filtration system - we use an Accusump - two oil coolers behind the front grill and oil filter in left rear fender. It is an electromotive complete ignition system, capable of delivering timed spark and timed fuel injection. Changing the gear ratio in gears 3 and 4 makes the performance remarkable. This combination delivers awe inspiring, never before experienced 911 performance in a 356, without butchering the car to change over to a 911 power plant. Customer experiences include racing against a C2 nose to tail to over 100 mph. Included with this car are the original engine, date-coded wheels, drum brakes, and all necessary parts to return it back to stock, factory condition. Also included are all the records of the restoration, almost 2000 photographs, and documentation of this six figure, sky's the limit build. This is an exceptional Porsche 356 that awards its owner with the opportunity to drive an Outlaw, while still having the capability to win a concours. -
